Catherine de Barnes Lane Update and Documentation from Solihull MBC:-

M42 junction 6 improvement scheme update

We’re writing to give you an update on the construction of the new A4545 link road between Clock Interchange and the new M42 junction 5a, which is part of our upgrade to the M42 at junction 6.

What’s happening next?

We’re re-programming our activities on Catherine de Barnes Lane to make sure the work is carried out in the safest possible way. Unfortunately, this has meant that the opening of the road has been delayed until Monday 13 February. There is never a good time for us to close roads and I understand it has a direct impact on the road users and the local community. It’s never our intention to cause delays to our nearby communities so we apologise for the inconvenience.

Why is this road closure needed?

This closure is enabling the realignment and connection of Catherine de Barnes Lane onto a new 38.6m long bridge (BR04) which will span the new A4545 link road. Once installed, this bridge will be used to take the existing Catherine de Barnes Lane traffic near the north entry to St Peters Lane to a new T-junction, where motorists will be able to continue towards Clock Interchange roundabout or into Bickenhill. By implementing this realignment now, we’ll be able to complete the bulk excavation underneath the location of BR04 without needing to close this section of Catherine de Barnes Lane for several months.
