Solihull Council is going to be carrying out major works on the southbound A452 Kenilworth Road between the Stonebridge and Hampton Lane roundabouts from February to May 2019.
The works are necessary as the River Blythe is eroding the southbound carriageway and as a result the bank needs to be stabilised to make the road safe.
Preliminary works are scheduled to start on Monday 18 February with off peak lane closures on both carriageways to allow for barrier repairs.
The main works will start on 18 March for up to 8 weeks. The work is expected to take 12 weeks.
A SMBC spokesperson said: “Because of the limited working area it isn’t safe to undertake single lane working. Unfortunately this will mean the closing of the southbound carriageway with a diversion for southbound traffic via the A45 and B4102 Hampton Lane.
“The Council has also identified a number of other issues along the route that require attention such as surfacing, crash barriers, remedial works to a local culvert and Molands bridge. The Council will deal with these at the same time in order to minimise any further disruption to road users.”
Balfour Beatty has been appointed as the main contractor to carry out the works on behalf of Solihull Council.
Councillor Ted Richards OBE, Cabinet Member for Transport and Highways, said: “The A452 Kenilworth Road is an important part of the borough’s infrastructure and we need to ensure it remains safe, now and in the future.”
“We understand the works will have an impact on motorists and could create delays during the works, but we will aim to keep disruption to a minimum.”
