Solar Together has been running in the UK since 2015 and a significant number of UK local authorities have taken part.  The experience has been that the scheme has encouraged those who might have been considering solar panels but weren’t sure how to go about it, to go ahead with installation.   This is the first time the scheme has been run in the West Midlands Combined Authority area and will contribute to the Council’s aim to increase local generation of renewable energy.

Registration for those wishing to take part in the Solar Together scheme is due to open on 31st March this year.   www.solartogether.co.uk/solihull

A promotional mail shot to selected residential Solihull addresses will be sent out in early April and May.  Addresses have been selected using Experian data and are considered to be those where householders are most likely to be able to take part in the scheme.  (FYI the cost of the mailshot is covered by a grant from the Midlands Net Zero Hub.)

The scheme is not restricted to those households that receive a promotional letter.  Any Solihull household, community group with a community building or small business can register.

There will be information on the Council’s website, press releases, social media, promotional leaflets for libraries and related events and contact with parish councils and community groups during the registration period, which is currently planned to end 6th June, but may be extended to 11th July. The scheme will also be promoted through business organisations. Communications will go live on 31st March.

Birmingham, Sandwell and Dudley are also taking part in the scheme.
